Youth Programs
We believe that education about hunting, fishing, and the outdoors should start at an early age. We sponsor several events and programs just for youth. All are open to the public; come and join us!
Green Mountain Conservation Camp

With the help of a generous donation from the New England Power Company, we are proud to sponsor area youth to attend Green Mountain Conservation Camp (GMCC).
GMCC is a week-long, overnight summer camp. Campers stay in cabins and receive hands-on learning experiences about fish, wildlife, ecology, botany, forestry, hunter firearm safety, outdoor first aid, and much more. The camp offers opportunities for hiking, canoeing, fishing, archery, .22 rifle and 20 gauge shotgun shooting, orienteering, and other fun activities. Campers have a unique opportunity to meet Vermont State Game Wardens, foresters, fisheries and wildlife biologists, and others who work in the outdoors.
Sessions are available at Buck Lake Camp in Woodbury and at Kehoe Camp at Lake Bomoseen, in Castleton.
Deerfield Valley Sportsmen's Club covers the full $300 cost for sponsored campers ages 11-15. To apply for sponsorship, please email us. Applicants should provide a written statement from the child explaining why he/she would like to attend camp, along with the contact information of the child's parent or guardian.

Be aware that sponsorship evaluation may take 6-8 weeks. GMCC registration is first-come, first-served, and registration cannot be completed without our signed Sponsorship Agreement Form, so please submit your sponsorship request as early as possible.
"Kids Hooked on Fishing" Youth Fishing Derby

Every year on Vermont's Free Fishing Day—the second Saturday in June—we invite kids up to 14 years old to join us at Lake Clara in Whitingham for our "Kids Hooked on Fishing" derby.

Snacks are provided, and prizes are awarded by age group for the largest, smallest, and most fish caught.

This is a great free and family-friendly event!
